Sun Microsystems Amersfoort

Working in a Network of Places

In early 2002 Sun started to implement the Network of Places in The Netherlands: a new central office in Amersfoort, two satellite offices in the Randstad city conglomeration and hundreds of home offices. Sun USA has been a pioneer in the field of flexible office concepts for quite some time. The next new step in this development has now been made in collaboration with Concept-international. The new Network of Places will serve as the model for a worldwide implementation involving some 39,000 staff.

Sun Microsystems supplies consultancy, services and products in the fields of Internet technology, office computerization and data warehousing.

Work process analysis; developments in the Sun workstyle:

Objectives of the Network of Places:

The Network of Places allows employees to choose their place of work on a day-to-day basis: in the central office, in a satellite office or in the home office:

The layout of the business club follows a fixed pattern on every floor: a Plaza, a Team Area and an Office Area. Layout of a satellite office: a Drop-in Area and a Team Area. The central and satellite offices have the same ambiances and IT infrastructures!

SunRay Technology: On-line in 2 seconds! SunRay smart cards ensure employees of a super-quick log-on at any workplace, providing them with access to all servers and all network information. Changing workplaces is a matter of seconds.

We thank Joppe van Berkum and Marcel de Boer (Sun Netherlands), Ann Bamesberger, Scott Ekman and Brent Daniel (all of Sun USA) for the successful cooperation.
